Jan Haluza byl tvrdě potrestán za to, že v roce 1948 odmítl vstoupit do KSČ. Ve vykonstruovaném procesu byl odsouzen k šesti letům vězení za údajnou protistátní a rozvratnou činnost
Jako jediný pomáhal s přípravou Emilu Zátopkovi, na rozdíl od něj nevstoupil do KSČ a zažil nelidské mučení. V komunistických vězeních a lágrech strávil osm let. 20. července si připomínáme 70 let od Zátopkova triumfu v Helsinkách. Příběh Jana Haluzy k němu patří.
Tři roky a čtyři měsíce se malá Eva Zweigenthalová, po otci židovská holčička, schovávala za nacistické okupace v domě vranovského poštmistra pana Kůrky.
Středa 15. března 1939 se vryla do paměti mnoha pamětníků: strašné počasí, výhružně vypadající němečtí vojáci v ulicích, plakající rodiče, vlastenecké projevy učitelů, pocity beznaděje a strachu.
Dne 23. února 1949 schválili komunističtí poslanci zákon o Jednotných zemědělských družstvech, který legalizoval násilné odebírání pozemků a majetku soukromým zemědělcům po vzoru Sovětského svazu.
Krátce po osvobození přivedli rodiče tehdy desetileté Evě Lukášové novou „starší sestru“. Jmenovala se Ilse Eichnerová, byla to dcera jejich židovských přátel, která jako jediná z rodiny přežila holocaust.
